Callaway Handicapping System from Golf Computer Systems is a software product used to score golf events using the Callaway method of handicapping.
A labor intensive and time-consuming task when done manually, the software makes the process fast and accurate, and presents neat and tidy reporting of results. If you ever run Callaway events for corporate days, trade days, societies or outings, this software is an absolute "must-have".
The Callaway handicapping method was designed to provide a means of handicapping golfers and non-golfers playing in the same event, bringing some semblance of equity to their scores so that they can be fairly ranked against each other.
Callaway handicapping requires hole by hole score entry in order to calculate the Callaway "handicap". The handicap is deducted from the player's adjusted gross score (adjusted so that no hole is scored at more than twice its Par) to arrive at a Net score, and it is this Net score that is used to rank the field for order of merit.
The Callaway handicap is calculated from the Gross score returned across 18 holes. A table of adjustments is applied based on the Gross score, and a number of the player's worst hole scores returned across the first 16 holes ( or the 16 "unhidden" holes if you have modified the default setup of the system) are summed and an adjustment value added or subtracted to arrive at the player's handicap.
The system offers an adjustment based upon the variance of the Par of the course being played from 72. Where Par is less than 72, a stroke is deducted from the Gross score returned by the player per stroke that Par is less than 72. If Par is 70 then 2 strokes (72 - 70) are deducted from the actual Gross score returned by the player to then determine the score to look up in the Callaway table of adjustments. Where Par exceeds 72, a stroke is added to the Gross score returned by the player, per stoke that Par exceeds 72.
The Callaway adjustment table is as follows:
| Adjusted Score | Deduction | |||||
| 68 | 69 | 70 | 71 | 72 | Scratch - no adjustment | |
